Clear Strategy

Clear Strategy boosts customer service with candid cameras

The next time a client approaches your company with what may seem an arbitrary customer care issue, you may want to think twice before you stifle a yawn as you pretend to help them.

This is because you may soon be swallowing the words ‘smile, you’re on candid camera’, or something to that effect, as the Clear Strategy Mystery Shopping team reveal their hidden identities.

The company’s Video Mystery Shopping technique was born out of a desire to improve South Africa’s customer care levels, and judging by the subsequent effect on frontline staff exposed for mediocre service, it certainly seems to be working!

Posing as customers, Clear Strategy uses concealed video cameras to analyse exactly how frontline staff treat their clients. There’s a definite upside, however, as recordings are not simply used to nail errant employees but rather to improve their behaviour through change strategies.

Launched in 1997 by Martin Hendriksen, whose penchant for hidden cameras suggests he’s watched his share of spy movies, Clear Strategy combines enormous passion with hands-on ability.

Martin now wants to partner with an organisation that can implement the behaviour changes Clear Strategy recommends. He would also appreciate introductions to key executives within major corporations and he even promises to switch the video camera off, at least for the initial meeting!
