Domestic Angels
Helping domestics to become true angels
Everyone at some point worries about ‘throwing the baby out with the bathwater’.  Elmien Holmes’ business, Domestic Angels, offers training to domestic workers to ensure that not only does this not happen, but the babies are well looked after and educationally stimulated.
Starting with little more than an idea, Elmien says that she wanted to make life easier for mothers who have to work, while also contributing to reducing unemployment. By providing unemployed domestic workers with formal training in the care of babies and toddlers, she is able to improve their education and self-esteem, provide them with the necessary tools to do their jobs better and give them the opportunity of full time employment.
Elmien states that on average per month, Domestic Angels trains between 80 and 100 candidates, and successfully places around 50% of those. Part of the training enables candidates to become computer literate.
However, if her business is to achieve all it can, Elmien says she needs a mentor to assist her with market analysis in order to widen her customer base, by incorporating the changing demographics of the country,. She also needs assistance with product definition, to know where the service offered begins and ends. Additionally, help with computer and office equipment, baby equipment and mannequins for first aid training, as well as assistance with obtaining SETA accreditation would be most welcome.
