Family Business

Many issues arise in a family that create pressure on a business’ performance and sustainability.

Yet, working well as a team, a family business can achieve remarkable success. It is often easier and more effective for the business development process to be supported by an outside provide. That way, there are no individual agendas – the only agenda governing the outcome is the health, sustainability and growth of the business.

Some obstacles that may be encountered while running a family business:

Old ideas struggle with new ideas as the next generation comes into the family business.
Family members disagree about direction.
Conflict emerges around succession and roles and responsibilities.
New directions and a succession plan are hard for the founding member of the family business to see.
The founding member, after all these years of work, is averse to risk, but without growth comes stagnation and with stagnation the value of the business, the founder’s pension, falls.
Senior staff are reluctant to embrace change and the ideas of offspring entering into the business
