Good for the Ground

Putting an end to the plastic bag!

It has been said that the national flower of South Africa is the plastic bag. However, its days are now numbered, thanks to Alison Palmer’s innovative company, Good for the Ground, based in Robertson. The company uses starch to manufacture biodegradable clear film bags for everything from children’s sandwiches to packaging fruit and vegetables.

Palmer is well aware that ‘green’ is the current hot button topic, saying that consumers are showing greater concern for the environment and awareness of the dangers of plastic. Not only can her biodegradable bags solve this problem, the potential applications for this type of packaging are virtually limitless.

However, Good for the Ground requires assistance with advertising, in order to make customers aware of the product and its benefits. In addition, Palmer says that the company also requires business strategy help, to streamline its supply chain. It also needs access to funding in order to better get the ‘green’ message out there.

Good for the Ground has a small yet dedicated team that thrives on its reputation as an environmental crusader. While hoping to help kick-start a trend in environmental sustainability, the company continues making its own contribution to Mother Earth, as espoused by the company mantra: “Made from Nature, Returned to Nature”.
