Look good to feel good – ‘Mooi’ is the word

Mooi Hair and Beauty Salon utilises many small layers to provide the ideal customer experience, ensuring that you leave the salon looking your best and with a smile on your face!

Karen Koen says that it is the numerous small touches that differentiate a client’s experience at her salon. For example, all clients are greeted by name and are provided with beauty salon slippers upon arrival, to put them in a relaxed mood.

To add to the ‘homely’ feel, customers are served tea or coffee and homemade cakes using antique china. Karen adds with a wink that those who come in for later appointments – she takes appointments until 5pm, staying open until 7pm – can exchange the tea for a glass of wine. To maintain the right, relaxed mood, a selection of beautiful music is also provided.

Mooi was created as a family venture, with Karen, her sister and her mom all involved. Although the relationship between stylist and client remains very personal, she believes it can be successfully recreated in Johannesburg and Pretoria, provided the right partners are found.

What would be of the greatest assistance to Karen is the aid of a brand strategist, in order to help her clarify her brand experience and convert that into a systemised marketing programme, as well as legal advice around expanding the business.
