Tourism Radio SA

Turn on, tune in and download

Bruce Springsteen sang a song about ‘Radio Nowhere’, which is fine if you’re on the ‘Road to Nowhere’ – however, if you’re a tourist checking out SA’s finest sights, you may want to consider a Radio Somewhere instead.

Tourism Radio South Africa was launched by Mark Allewell in 2007 and uses Hummba.com, a travel Website and mobile application that allows visitors to download free travel audio guides directly onto their mobile phones. What is more, it allows users to create their own location-based photo albums, videos and routes and share them with friends and family.

By providing audio information, based on where the user is at the time, information can be delivered about specific points of interest. Additionally, users can interact directly with their friends from the application and can take geo-tagged pictures or videos to share with both the Hummba and Facebook communities.

Hummba.com has patent pending technology and – thanks to its social layer – creates a community, not just based on audio guides, but on people’s travel habits. However, as with all great concepts, it now needs help to grow further. Mark says he requires assistance with a branding and marketing strategy, as well as increased website visibility and customer experience testing. So if there’s a PR company out there that can help expand the hummba.com brand, he’d love to hear from you.
